Luiz Carlos Bambirra Torres received his B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University Center of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 2010, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil, in 2012 and 2016, respectively. His doctoral research focused on neural networks and machine learning.
He pursued postdoctoral research at UFMG in 2017, supported by the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). In 2018, he continued his postdoctoral research at the Optical Networks Laboratory (ONLAB), KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, through an international research collaboration.
Since 2019, he has been a faculty member at the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), Brazil, where he currently serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Computing (DECOM) and leads the Machine Learning Research Group. His research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks, pattern recognition, and their applications to real-world problems.
He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters. He currently serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems and has contributed as a reviewer for several internationally recognized journals, including Journal of the Franklin Institute, Neural Processing Letters, Evolving Systems, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, IET Computer Vision, IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, IET Image Processing, and IET Communications.
